An introduction to CanConnect
A steady rise in fatal ailments across the country coupled with the significant deaths caused by cancer, metabolic disorders and cardiac ailments as well as genetic birth disorders has been noticed over the years. 70 per cent of cancer patients lose their lives in the first year due to delay in detection, 24 lakh people lose their life of cardiac arrest annually. 1,30,000 children are born each year with congenital heart diseases and a fifth of all infant deaths are caused by metabolic disorders, prompting the need for better social healthcare facilities across the country.
In order to provide genetic testing and state-of-the art treatment and monitoring facilities to people from different strata of the society, CanConnect was set up in 2015. It is a non-for-profit company, which collaborates with various stakeholders in society to achieve social healthcare and benefit the under privileged.
CanConnect aims to bring modern healthcare services based on genetic science to the common man who may need the knowledge, but cannot afford it or is completely unaware of its existence. Through a five-pronged program, CanConnect plans to cover the entire healthcare cycle from screening for critical illnesses to monitoring post treatment.
The team at CanConnect aims to reach out and screen over one-lakh underprivileged people from the country in the next 12 to 18 months, and ensure that at a minimum of 5,000 to 10,000 persons are covered under this project.
To reach out to the maximum people and benefit the underprivileged section of the society, CanConnect is seeking collaboration with primaries of the healthcare ecosystem, like doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, nursing homes, pharmaceutical companies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) working in the healthcare sector, community organisations and other stake holders in the society.
